Quest Instructions

(last solved and updated: May 2023)

DURSKAEN: This is the True staff 'Durskaen'. One of the few remaining Storm Blades known to exist. It is a long, unusually sturdy staff. Upon the end is a crescent moon shaped blade, in honor of the deity Hecate. Suspended magically within the blade is a glowing orb, representative of the moon and all the power that dwells in the darkness. This orb pulsates with energy in a frightening manner. Along the shaft of the weapon are dozens of short, sharp spikes. These spikes match the calloused hands of the Storm Legion Member whose staff this is. Anyone else that were to wield this weapon would certainly injure themselves trying.

SUMMARY: Initially the Monk guild quest given to Rictor, this quest is essentially a scavenger hunt for seemingly random items that can be found throughout the realms. Connect them together in a specific order and create the fabled weapon, Durskaen.

Unlike other quests where all steps are given, you have an option to find the items yourself (just like the mudders attempted for 20+ years), or be given hints for a specific item if you're stuck.

Step 1:

Steps 1 and 2 are optional as you can skip straight to obtaining the necessary items without first speaking to the blacksmith. However, if you'd like the full expereience; as the quest indicates, locate the Master Blacksmith. From Fantasy, travel <portal, 15e, leave, 11e, 9s, 2w, s, 3d, 3n, nw, 3w, 3s, 7s, 3e, se, ne, e, 2s, e, 3n, w, n, 2w, 5n, 2e, 4n>

You can 'say' specific things to learn more:

<say storm blades>
Ammergau says: The Storm Blades were the weapons that I created for the members of the Legion of the Storm. Every Storm member received their Blade upon induction into the named ranks of the Legion. The Blades are formed from the most powerful magics and at times, a bit of the soul of the wielder.

<say durskaen>
Ammergau says: Durskaen... If ever restored, will be a truly awesome weapon.

<say anclas>
Ammergau says: Anclas was the home and training grounds of the Storm Legion. The King's spies if you will. They were the secret organization of Rogan that was used to carry out the less honorable deeds of the nation. Most of what they accomplished was without the knowledge of the crown, but it was necessary. The Storm Legion was wiped out by the Dragon Guard by decree of the King due to a deception by his advisor. All that remains is this hollow and deserted fortress.

Step 2:

Return to Center of Town. Travel <4s, 2w, 2s, u, n, 8e, 3n, 11w, enter, 15w, portal, 3e, n, 2e, s>

Step 3:

Begin your search to locate the items.
HOW TO USE THE QUEST INFO BELOW: Below you'll find various sets of instructions. The first set is for Overall quest information. The next sets include instructions on how to obtain each item (not in any specific order). As requested by players, you have an option to try and solve each item yourself, or get hints for that item if you're stuck. If you're not interested in any hints at all, check out the Overall directions below.

  39. <assemble durskaen>

    NOTE: If Ammergau indicates that someone else has already assembled Durskaen, you'll need to kill Ammergau and refresh the room. As it stands, the limit has been 2 times per reboot that Ammergau will respawn to assemble Durskaen. (As of May 5, 2023, this may have been changed to only allow one individual to solve the quest per boot. Feel free to confirm or deny this information to Locrian.)

    Ammergau says: So, you've decided to attempt to assemble the mighty Durskaen.
    Ammergau says: Starting from the bottom of the staff, name (in order), which items I should use to assemble it.
    (when you think you've named all the necessary pieces, type 'done' (without the quotes of course)).

    Warning: Assembling it incorrectly could _possibly_ destroy it...
    If you'd rather not try now, just type 'done'.

    Oh, and be as specific as possible when naming the items, make absolutely certain you are naming the correct object, for instance valid entries are:
     dagger 3
     sword of stunning
     shield

    Those are all valid, but note the difference in specificity, if you have two shields, and the second one is the one you want, you had better either specify 'shield 2', or its full name.
    Note: there's likely NOT a sword of stunning involved, it was merely placed here as an example.

    You hand all your stuff to Ammergau.
    Ammergau takes The Wand of Wonder (167) and places it on the ground.

    Ammergau attaches The Wand of Radiation (61) to The Wand of Wonder (167).

    Ammergau attaches The Ring of Wonder to The Wand of Radiation (61).

    Ammergau breaks the sharp sickle from it's rotted base.

    Ammergau attaches A sharp, sinister looking sickle to The Ring of Wonder.

    Ammergau attaches The Amulet of Energy to A sharp, sinister looking sickle.

    Ammergau says: The staff has been assembled, but is not complete.

    Ammergau entwines the staff with the Chaotic Sinew.

    The staff seems solid and battleready, but lacks something...

    Ammergau strokes his beard.

    Ammergau pours the Obsidian Gel over the assembled staff, it quickly coats the entire weapon, undulating to and fro. The liquid churns around the staff and begins spinning madly. The faster it spins the brighter it becomes. With a flash of light, the spinning has ceased and the black liquid has bonded to the staff with a perfect sheen of pure black. The staff hums with power.

    Ammergau says: The Staff is complete.

    Ammergau lays the staff on the ground before you.

    Clouds begin to form overhead. Lightning shimmers across the sky as Thunder rolls through the air. Mists begin to swirl throughout the realms, undulating slowly, moving silently into the air.

    The lightning begins striking the ground in a random pattern, dancing down from the heavens like broken shards of ice from the rooftops. The thunder grows louder and off in the distance you see the light begin to bend...

    The lightning begins to become contorted and stretched, your body shivers in fear as you contemplate what source of power could be causing this apocalypse. The mists begin to flow towards the distant point. All light appears to be getting pulled towards it. Winds pick up around you, a chill fills the air...

    Hail and ice stream across your vision in horizontal motion. The light continues to get pulled to a far off distance. Strangely, you remain unaffected, steadfast in your stance, you are unmoved. The clouds start to clear as the last remnants are sucked into a far off place. The lightning settles and the mists dissipate.

    In an almost BLINDING flash of light, an image appears before you and suddenly fades. Standing alone, in the depths of the Master Blacksmiths' forge, you see Locrian standing alone with Ammergau and the staff 'Durskaen'. The hail ceases, and the winds become calm. A chilling breeze whisps through your hair, and is gone...

    Streaks of energy stream off the tip of Durskaen. A Refugee shudders in pain as bits of flesh spray off into dust.

It's the Wand of Wonder

Wand of Wonder
This is the wand of wonder, a truly insane device that can perform the most incredible miracles and the most ultimate catastrophes. In the hands of the in-experienced, it can be a terrible device. There's a small, almost washer-like fitting on one end. Weird... There is a small word engraved on the side of the wand, 'ghoel'.
It looks very heavy.
