Chatlines of 3 Kingdoms

3K has a lot of different ways for players to communicate with each other. There are public lines such as shout or flapchat, private lines like tell and linktell. Beyond this lines can be guild specific, hobby specific or dozens of other possibilities. Some are on by default, while others you have to opt in to. Using ANSI to color these lines can make life a lot easier for identifying them. At any time you can see which lines you are tuned into by typing <chatlines>.
help chatlines

How do I change colors?

<help mudansi>
SYNTAX: See Below

Three Kingdoms now has color that can be used by players if they so desire. It is also fully configurable by each and every player.
This is done with two commands: 'ansi' and 'aset'.

NOTE: Instead of using aset you can also use 'setcolor' which uses the exact same syntax and does the exact same thing. Also, 'mudansi' can be substituted for the 'ansi' command. If you wish to use color the first thing you will need to do is type 'ansi on'. The ansi command supports the following syntax:

Command: Notes:
ansi on Enables configurable ansi. If it is disabled none of your ansi settings will be used but they aren't lost. They're still saved and will be used as soon as you type ansi on.
ansi full This is just like ansi on except the entire line(s)
ansi off Disables configurable ansi settings. This is useful if you find yourself on a terminal that doesn't support ansi. Instead of wiping all your settings merely disable them instead.
ansi wipe Removes ALL of your ansi settings.
ansi default Installs the default color scheme
ansi colors Display all your standard colors, what they look like on your monitor and what their settings are.
These colors can be used with the set command (see below).
ansi <color> Shows the value of a specific color.
ansi <col> <val> Changes the value of one of you standard colors. Red or whatever may have a different value on your terminal so this can be useful.

Certain commands and output has been specifically set up to be colored. This is done by setting certain variables. Variables go in pairs. There is always a prefix variable and a suffix variable. The prefix variable is used to turn color on and the suffix is used to turn it off. Prefix variables end in _pref (eg tell_pref) and suffix variables end in _suff (eg tell_suff).

On most peoples terminals the color 'reset' will turn off ansi. If not I suggest you find out what code does and then type 'ansi reset <code>'.

Please direct any comments, bug reports or problems to Raven.

See also: ansivars, aset, setcolor.

Example

Let's say you want to turn the shout line blue:
  1. <chatlines> to see what the ansi variable is. (It's just 'shout'.)
  2. Next, type <ansi colors> to see what the colour name is for the blue you want. (It's 'hiblue'.)
  3. Last, type <aset shout hiblue>. Now your shout line should look like this -
Fluffy shouts: get his lucky charms!

Presumably, this line is available as soon as you create a character and type <auction>, if you're interested in bidding on the auction line as well, you should acquire at least 5 points in your Charisma stat (but this number is said to scale with your mud level). It is specifically designed for the auction room and house that is located (from Center of Town) <e, d> for room, and travel 1 more <d> for house.

3-Kingdoms Polling System

The polling system provides you an opportunity to post polls or vote on the polls of others. Polls may be registered in the Poll Room in Pinnacle for a fee. This fee may change so be sure to check the sign in the Poll Room before registering. The following poll types are available for use:

Bootpolls:
---------
These run for most of an entire boot and only one may be run each boot. If a bootpoll is running a second may be queued to run after the next reboot. Bootpolls close 45 minutes before reboot, so keep this in mind if you want your poll to run for a while and it is getting near reboot time. A poll posted after this closing time will be queued to run 15 minutes after reboot, so long as there is not already a bootpoll waiting to be run.

Quickpolls:
----------
These run for 5 minutes, and the system supports the queuing of one quickpoll while another is running. The last quickpoll may be run 11 minutes before reboot, after which registration will result in the poll being run approximately 15 minutes after reboot.

During the time when a poll is running, a chat line is open on which to discuss it. See 'help poll' for more information on the line.

See 'help pvote' for information on voting on the running polls and checking recent polls results.

PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for the following rules as well as for those outlined in 'help poll' for the chat line. Normal rules from 'help rules' do, of course, apply.

RULES FOR POSTING POLLS:

1) Consider polls to have the same language usage rules as the shout line.

2) You my NOT use the polling system to harass or denigrate another player. It is generally advisable to leave references to players and wizards out of the polls.

3) The polling system is not a venue for lodging complaints. This includes whining about things such as guild balance or PK. There are better venues for such complaints, and polls should be kept to fun or interesting topics.

Failure to heed these rules will result in being temporarily or permanently banned from registering new polls and/or using the chat line.

Help Poll

<help poll>

Command: poll

To augment the polling system (see 'help polls'), the poll line is available whenever a poll is up for voting, and for a short duration thereafter.

To get rid of the poll line indefinitely, use 'poll -X' To get the poll line back, simply type 'poll'

Use the variable "poll" to set ANSI for the line.
(see 'help aset')

When was the Poll line created?
Note titled 'Polling System (Zimpor, Thu Nov 11 23:38:19 2004):
3-Kingdoms now has a player-submissible polling system. You'll get the line automatically when you log in, but it will be nice and quiet when a poll isn't running. The polls themselves can be posted by you for a reasonable fee, and they can be voted on from anywhere. The pollster has set up office (at least for now) near Jenna. Find him to post a new poll.

How can I get this line?

  1. At Christmas time, find 'A Large Green Christmas Tree' in the Center of Town.
This is an enormous, beautiful Christmas tree. It stands here shimmering in the light that reflects off the snow around it. Hanging in the tree you see hundreds, maybe THOUSANDS of shiny flasks. You could probably 'snatch a flask' off of this tree. But likely only once.
You are not sure how heavy it is.
  2. <snatch a flask>
You snatch a potion from the tree!
Potion of XMas Healing (used 0 HP, 0 SP) -
This is an XMas potion of healing. It has infinite capacity to heal.
    It looks light.
  3. <drink potion>
  4. Repeat the previous step until you see a slime spawn.
As you go to drink the flask, a small slimey creature oozes out and slides down your face, around your neck, and into your backpack where it feasts on years worth of old cheetos and stale fritos and grows to twenty times its original size. It sure is cute though.
If you don't like this slime you can squish it.

    [Slime Event] Locrian got slimed!
  5. You now have access to the slime chatline <slime chat> as well. Remember to stay away from fire damage to keep your slime longer (which includes damage by you and done to you).

Gaidin tells you: And "redo" for mischans. If you accidently flapchat instead of ctell you can just to "redo flapchat ctell" and it will repeat what you just said on ctell instead.
You tell Gaidin: i always thought people were really fast at typing
You tell Gaidin: or backspacing to fix it
