The Story of the Undead Knight
From entrance of Unicorn area - <s, w, sw, s, dig bone, assemble bones>

You separate and sort the bones to the best of your ability. As you lay the last bone in place, a scene begins to unfold in front of you.

A vision appears over the assembled skeleton. Mists waver back and forth, finally clearing. Through this misty looking glass, you see a farmer performing his chores.

The farmer says: 'Damn plague. It's killing my animals.' The farmer's brow creases and he looks worried. The farmer ponders: How can I save the rest of my farm??

You see the farmer walk into a field, guarded by a strange scarecrow. An object appears in the distance, and the farmer walks towards it.

As the farmer approaches the object, you can tell that it is a cow. The farmer kneels by the cow and places his hand on its stomach.

The farmer sobs!
Suddenly, the farmer turns his face to the heavens. The farmer screams: Have I not been your servant all these years? The farmer moans: How could you desert me now in my time of need?

A loud roar of thunder is heard...
The sky turns purple and drops of blood fall, covering the field.
A thunderous voice: My servant.
The voice: My servant. You may yet save your precious farm. Go forth to the forest island of Lake Pebich.

The voice continues: There you will find a white horse with a golden horn. If you can slay that horse, cut its horn off and fill the horn with water from the lake. The horn will then give life beyond this plague, for such is the power of the unicorn and the well-spring of magic.

The scene is covered with mist, which shortly clears, revealing the man again. Now, the farmer is dressed in knightly attire, sporting deadly weapons and an even deadlier expression. It is plain that he has decided to follow his dark god's advice and search out the unicorn.

The farmer strides off, full of purpose. You sense that his journey was long and difficult, yet somehow he overcame all the obstacles. The vision dims and then brightens.

Now, the farmer stands in a clearing before a peaceful unicorn. The unicorn regards the farmer with compassion.

The farmer draws his sword. You can hear the soft silky sound of its metal against the scabbard.

The man approaches the unicorn while the unicorn regards him with curiosity. The expression of the unicorn shows that this is the first human that the unicorn has ever encountered.

The unicorn regards the farmer with curiosity, letting him approach, oblivious to the danger of the farmer's bared steel.

Suddenly, the farmer's hand darts out, and he impales his longsword deep into the unicorn's neck. The unicorn falls, mortally wounded, its magical lifeblood spilling over the earth around it.

The unicorn neighs frightfully. Suddenly you see that its form is changing, becoming human. The farmer says: You will not escape me so easily, beast.

The farmer strides up to the still form of the unicorn, and places his hand on its horn. The farmer draws his razor sharp red axe, and raises it high over his head...

As the farmer's axe falls, severing the horn, the sky flashes black and then purple. Lightning forks through the air, followed by loud thunderclaps.

The unicorn gasps as it completes the transformation to human form, and as its eyes roll back into its head, it opens its mouth and speaks: 'With my dying breath, I curse you and share my death with you.'

The human unicorn touches the farmer.

The farmer laughs out loud, lifting the bloody unicorn horn high into the sky. Suddenly a huge strike of lightning forks from a billowing white cloud, transfixing the farmer, tendrils of electricity arcing through the air into his chest, ripping his armor open and exploding the weak skin underneath.

The farmer gasps as his heart explodes, covering his body in blood. He falls to the ground, slowly.

As his body hits the ground, the unicorn horn slips from his fingers, falling upside down into his open chest wound, trickles of unicorn blood spilling from it.

The vision goes dark.

The vision lightens and lightens again.

The farmer stirs. With one hand, he props himself up. His eyes open and you gasp as you see the eyes of a dead man. You look at the farmer more closely and see that his chest is still torn open and exposes the shredded mass that was once his heart. It is obvious that no mortal blood will ever fill this vessel again, but yet he still moves.

The vision fades again.

When the vision continues, the farmer stands on his farm, the corpse of his dead animals around him. He chuckles madly, his face (or what remains of it), twisted in madness.

Undead farmer says: I grant you life Cow. Rise!
Undead farmer howls hysterically: Even the gods may not take my chicken from me. Cow (undead) and chicken (undead) have been animated.

You shiver as the vision again fades and reappears. The farmer (undead) stands in a house, before a roaring fire. A younger man stands across from him.

Undead farmer says: My son. Forgive me for what I have done. The animals that I have animated have no evil and should not share my fate, but I, who have been cursed by the unicorn which I slew so many years before, can not go on.

Undead farmer gives unicorn horn to knight. Undead farmer says: Protect this horn, my son. Farewell.

Undead farmer steps into fire and is destroyed. Knight sobs: Goodbye father. I shall remember you always.

The vision fades to black and is gone.

The corpse of the unicorn becomes corporeal and you sense, rather than hear, it intone: I must avenge my killers.
The unicorn eyes you warily.
